Boom Supersonic unveils its completed Overture Superfactory

Boom Supersonic has completed the construction of the factory where it will assemble its Overture aircraft. Named the Overture Superfactory, the building was inaugurated with the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 17, 2024.

Located at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, this is the first supersonic aircraft factory in the United States. Blake Scholl, founder and CEO of Boom Supersonic, remarked that «the construction of our Overture Superfactory ensures the United States’ leadership in aerospace manufacturing. Overture provides an alternative for airlines worldwide.»

The first assembly line has the capacity to produce 33 Overture aircraft per year. Boom plans to build an additional assembly line, doubling production. The campus will also include a delivery center where airlines will receive their aircraft. The Superfactory is expected to generate over $32 billion for North Carolina’s economy and create 2,400 jobs over the next 20 years.

Roy Cooper, Governor of North Carolina, commented, «As the state where the era of aviation began, North Carolina is thrilled to see Boom’s progress towards delivering the world’s first sustainable supersonic airplane. Our state has the skilled workforce, infrastructure, and perfect location to help Boom revolutionize air travel,» he noted.

Designed by BRPH and built by BE&K, the facility will be LEED certified. It is expected to be at least 40% more energy-efficient compared to similar facilities. Besides prioritizing sustainable products, it will integrate heat mitigation materials, high-efficiency LED lighting, and water conservation systems. With the building complete, Boom now focuses on enabling production. This requires designing and implementing assembly stations and finalizing processes for material movement.

The company will begin acquiring and installing tools, starting with an advanced test cell unit, which will be used to develop manufacturing processes, optimize assembly line flow, and prepare personnel for production.
