Helicopter Carrying Iranian President Crashes: What We Know

Iranian media reported moments ago that a Bell 412 helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the foreign minister, and other officials crashed this Sunday while flying over a mountainous area.

The delegation, consisting of a total of three helicopters, was returning from a visit to Iran’s border with Azerbaijan to participate in the inauguration of a dam when they encountered dense fog conditions.

As of the time of this publication (15:30 GMT), the status of the helicopter’s passengers has not been determined. The Iranian state agency, IRNA, indicated that twenty rescue teams equipped with drones have been dispatched to assist with search and rescue operations, but given the weather conditions, these will take time.
