Lufthansa Cargo will start non-stop flights from Brussels International Airport (BRU) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) operated by Boeing 777F. The connection will begin on April 3 and be scheduled for two weekly flights (Mondays and Wednesdays).
The route will run from Frankfurt to Chicago via Brussels and back to the Frankfurt hub. For the first time, the carrier is connecting Belgium to North America with a cargo aircraft.
«We are looking forward to our customers being able to book on this new route with immediate effect. Brussels Airport is an important hub for the pharmaceutical sector in particular. With our new connection, we can now offer an even more attractive network and, in particular, a direct connection for particularly time-critical cargo, which now includes up to 34 cargo connections from Europe to North America,» said Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo.
Brussels Airport is known as the gateway of choice for European pharmaceutical companies. The airport boasts the largest pharmaceutical warehouse in Europe and continues to invest in renovating its cargo space. Brussels Airport’s cargo community specializes in handling time- and temperature-sensitive cargo and its agents were the first in the world to receive CEIV Pharma certification.
With innovative pharmaceutical transport vehicles at the airport and a closed cold chain from warehouse to aircraft, pharmaceutical transport has become one of the critical stages of the airport’s cargo department, which uses digitalization to achieve a transparent and fast process.
«We are delighted to welcome Lufthansa Cargo to our airport community and to support their cargo operations to and from Brussels Airport. With our common focus on reliable and efficient transport of pharmaceuticals and a shared ambition in terms of sustainability, as they pioneer technologies such as sharkskin technology and invest in sustainable aviation fuel, they are an important asset to our cargo network,» says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport.
