British Airways is commemorating a decade of operations at Austin-Bergstrom Airport by introducing special service on flights from London Heathrow Airport. The airline began flying to the Texas capital on March 3, 2014 and since that time has moved 1.25 million passengers between Austin and the United Kingdom.
A commemorative event was held at Austin-Bergstrom Airport before the departure of BA Flight 190 to London Heathrow. Customers were treated to live music, giveaways, and speeches.
“Celebrating ten years of flights between Austin and London is a testament to the strong relationship we have built with this incredible city and its people. Working together with the community and local institutions, combined with our joint business partnership with American Airlines, has allowed us to increase our capacity in the market by 50% since our first year of operations. This is all thanks to the deployment of one of our largest aircraft, the A350,” said Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Planning and Strategy.
“As we celebrate a decade of partnership with British Airways, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is honored to recognize the enduring commitment that characterizes our journey together. Ten years ago, this first transatlantic flight helped put the Live Music Capital of the World in its rightful place on the world stage,” said Ghizlane Badawi, interim CEO of AUS.
Customers flying from Austin during the anniversary month will enjoy an exclusive Texas-inspired menu. British Airways currently serves 26 U.S. cities, and Austin is served daily by Airbus A350-1000 aircraft with 56 Club Suite, 56 Premium Economy, and 219 Economy seats.
