Iberia Express transported 7 million passengers in 2023

Iberia Express transported over seven million passengers during 2023. The airline exceeded the number of flights operated in 2022 by 13.7%, completing 41,100 operations.

The offering rose to 8 million seats, reaching the milestone of 50 million passengers transported since its inception on March 25, 2012, by June.

Carlos Gómez, CEO of Iberia Express, stated that «In a year when we have surpassed the figure of 50 million passengers transported since the start of our operations in 2012, Iberia Express has also consolidated itself as the leading operator at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, and on routes between Madrid and the Canary and Balearic Islands.»

«Over these almost twelve years, we have successfully developed a business model that combines all the advantages of ‘low cost’ in terms of efficiency, with the benefits and service quality of a network company,” and with an excellent operation reflected in our high punctuality rates and customer recommendation index. My congratulations to all the employees of Iberia Express for making it possible,» he added.

Key Markets

More than 38% of the total flights operated in 2023 correspond to the Canary Islands market, where Iberia Express made available to its customers over 3.1 million seats throughout the year, an increase of 10.3% compared to 2022.

In the Balearic market, the airline exceeded 7,700 flights and over 1.5 million seats in 2023, representing an increase of 7.6% and 6.5% respectively compared to 2022.

In addition, Iberia Express added Tel Aviv, Cairo, and Marrakech to its destination network, enhancing its diversification towards international destinations, which now account for 30.5% of the airline’s total capacity.

Sustainability Program

Iberia Express committed to achieving net carbon emissions by 2050. As part of this process, they introduced a next-generation fleet with 12 Airbus A321 neo aircraft, capable of short and medium-haul flights.

Furthermore, the new CFM LEAP engines reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by 19%, and they are 50% quieter.

These and other measures have enabled Iberia Express to obtain the IEnvA environmental certification (IATA Environmental Assessment) issued by the International Air Transport Association, IATA.

This is a voluntary program by IATA that assesses the environmental management of airlines, evaluates key procedures, and, after an audit, independently advises airlines to improve their environmental performance.
