easyJet celebrates flying five million passengers at Birmingham airport

easyJet celebrates the milestone of five million passengers mobilized at Birmingham Airport, as the low-cost airline gave away a pair of tickets to any destination in the airline’s network to two passengers flying to Geneva.

The airline began service at Birmingham Airport in 2007 with a flight from Geneva. Seventeen years on, the launch of a three-aircraft base is enabling the low-cost carrier to further expand its network at Birmingham with 16 new routes starting from the base opening on March 18, 2024, including to Antalya, Barcelona, and Sharm el Sheik, which will strengthen Midlands connectivity across 29 routes in the UK, Europe, and North Africa.

The opening of easyJet’s first UK base in more than a decade will create around 100 jobs for pilots and cabin crew and 1,200 indirect jobs. Currently, easyJet employs around 10,000 people in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

With this new base, easyJet Holidays, the UK’s fastest-growing tour operator, will provide more than thousands of package holidays from Birmingham to more than 100 European destinations, with a choice of 5,000 hotels.

«With just 25 days to go until the launch of easyJet’s Birmingham Airport-based operations, it has been a pleasure to present its award to easyJet’s five millionth passenger. Reaching this milestone is a testament to the increasingly close relationship between Birmingham Airport and easyJet,» said Tom Screen, Director of Aviation at Birmingham Airport.
