American Airlines is expanding its offerings in Japan for the summer season with new nonstop service between New York JFK and Tokyo Haneda. The airline received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to operate this route and become the only U.S. carrier to fly between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Haneda Airport.
Previously, American operated between New York JFK and Tokyo-Haneda the service was suspended on December 1, 2013, due to inconvenient schedules at Haneda Airport.
«This new service will complement the flights offered by our joint business partner, Japan Airlines, giving more ways for our customers to travel between the U.S. and Japan,» said Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning and Schedules.
Beginning June 28, American’s service will complement the existing operations of its Joint Venture partner Japan Airlines. This summer, customers will have the option of three daily flights between New York and Tokyo.
American’s new daily operation will provide round-trip connections to more than 30 cities in Japan and East Asia served by Japan Airlines, including cities such as Osaka, Sapporo, and Fukuoka.
The route between New York JFK and Tokyo will be American’s fourth daily flight to Tokyo Airport, complementing the daily operation from Dallas/Fort Worth and the two daily flights from Los Angeles.
The joint venture between American and Japan Airlines will provide 17 daily flights between the U.S. mainland and Japan next summer season, including 10 daily flights to Haneda Airport.
American Airlines Schedule between New York and Haneda
- New York JFK 11:25 – Tokyo/Haneda 14:30+1 daily flights.
- Tokyo/Haneda 16:30 – New York JFK 16:35 daily flights.
The route will be operated by Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
Japan Airlines’ schedule between New York and Haneda
- Tokyo/Haneda – New York JFK Flight JL 006 HND 11:05 – JFK 10:00 daily flights.
- Tokyo/Haneda – New York JFK Flight JL 004 HND 19:45 – JFK 18:40 daily flights.
- New York JFK – Tokyo/Haneda Flight JL 003 JFK 00:35 – HND 05:10+1 daily flights.
- New York JFK – Tokyo/Haneda Flight JL 005 JFK 12:40 – HND 17:25+1 daily flights.
The route will be operated on Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
