South African Airways is returning to Australia after a four-year hiatus with a non-stop service between Johannesburg and Perth, bookings are now available. The carrier last operated between the two cities on 26 March 2020.
The airline is continuing with its plans to operate profitably and increase its fleet of wide-body aircraft to connect South Africa with long-haul routes. Perth is South African Airways’ second intercontinental destination after Sao Paulo which commenced on 31 October 2023.
South African Airways’ 25 Star Alliance members have new travel options to fly to and from Australia. The airline plans to expand its network to 20 destinations this year.
«In addition to the global interconnectivity potential of this route, Perth has long been a favourite destination for South African and Australian travellers, with approximately 80% of our target market being visiting family and friends. The resumption of the route offers easier and more direct passage for both leisure and business travellers, encouraging trade and cultural exchange between South Africa and Australia,» said John Lamola, CEO of South African Airways.
