SKY Airline closes 2023 with more Airbus A321neo

-

SKY Airline ended 2023 with a fleet of 30 aircraft, including the arrival of two new aircraft after two years. The company has been consolidating its position as the second most important airline in Chile and Peru in terms of domestic passenger movements during this period.

The last delivery of new aircraft had occurred on December 9, 2021, when the airline welcomed the A321neo registered as CC-DCC to its fleet. Over the next two years, SKY Airline dedicated its efforts to solidifying its position.

Before the end of 2023, SKY Airline took delivery of two new Airbus A321neo aircraft directly from the Airbus factory in Hamburg (XFW). Both units are equipped with CFM LEAP engines, which power SKY Airline’s entire fleet and have proven to be operationally reliable compared to Pratt & Whitney engines.

The two Airbus A321neo, registered as CC-DCD and CC-DCE, arrived in Chile in November and December, respectively. With these additions, SKY Airline’s current fleet comprises 30 aircraft: 25 Airbus A320neo with capacity for 186 passengers and 5 Airbus A321neo with capacity for 238 passengers.

The A321neo aircraft are mostly used in the Chilean domestic market, except for flights from Santiago (SCL) to Lima, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Florianopolis and from Lima to Cancun.

SKY, second largest airline in Chile and Peru

According to provisional data from Chile’s Civil Aviation Board (JAC) and Peru’s Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), SKY Airline remained the second largest player in the domestic market, with a market share of 23.3% in Chile through November and 19.1% in Peru through October.

Recently, SKY Airline decided to reduce its domestic presence in Peru by suspending flights to Cajamarca (CJA), Chiclayo (CIX), Talara (TYL) and Tacna (TCQ), reducing the number of domestic destinations from 15 to 11.

Despite this reduction in the domestic market, the airline has concentrated its growth efforts on the international market, increasing to daily flights from Lima to Guarulhos and resuming operations to Salvador de Bahia (SSA), Brazil, and Montevideo (MVD), Uruguay.

In the first week of January 2024, the company expands its presence in the Uruguayan market by resuming operations in Montevideo, connecting it to four cities: Lima (LIM), Santiago (SCL), Florianopolis (FLN) and Salvador (SSA).
