At the Wings India event held last week in Hyderabad, Lufthansa Technik and Air India Express sealed an engine maintenance agreement. This contract will encompass the comprehensive review of a minimum of three CFM56-7B engines from the airline’s Boeing 737-800 fleet.
This agreement marks the first collaboration between Lufthansa Technik, an international maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider, and the low-cost subsidiary of Air India. Beyond engine maintenance, Lufthansa Technik will also provide support for a portion of the airline’s Boeing 737 fleet. This includes ad hoc repairs and component exchanges, along with services in case of disruptions that ground an aircraft (Aircraft on Ground or AOG).

Air India Express is the low-cost subsidiary of Air India. It is headquartered at Cochin International Airport, from where it covers various domestic and international destinations. It boasts a fleet of 32 aircraft, all from the American manufacturer Boeing: 26 737-800 and 6 737 MAX 8. Founded in May 2004, it formally commenced operations on April 25, 2005. Its establishment resulted from the merger between Air India and Indian Airlines mandated by the Government, which is the majority shareholder of both airlines.
