Through a press release, Aerolíneas Argentinas informed that it canceled all its operations scheduled for January 24, affected by the decision of the union not to comply with the mandatory conciliation and join the national strike launched by the central labor unions.
«Aerolíneas Argentinas informs that it added another 28 flight cancellations to the 267 already reported, as a consequence of the non-compliance with the mandatory conciliation by the APA (Asociación del Personal Aeronáutico – Aeronautical Staff Association) union that brings together the ramp, check-in and call center staff,» the company says.
«From first thing today [January 24], inspectors from the Secretariat of Labor, Employment and Social Security went to the Aeroparque terminal to document the infraction by the aforementioned union.»
The company further clarifies that «initially, the affected flights were concentrated in the 12 to 24 hs slot as a result of the adhesion of the aeronautical unions to the strike defined by the central labor unions. However, APA extended this measure and added the period from midnight to midnight, making it impossible to operate during the whole day».
In total, according to the operator, «295 flights were canceled and 26 others were rescheduled, affecting more than 20 thousand passengers on international, regional, and domestic flights.» Aerolíneas Argentinas estimates that the total cost of this measure will exceed 2.5 million dollars.
The company suggests passengers to check the company’s website for the latest information.
