Cathay Pacific confirmed on Monday (22) that it will resume its regular flights between Hong Kong and Barcelona, a route it had abandoned in early 2020 as a consequence of the pandemic and where it had been a pioneer since 2017.
As we reported last month, the company will operate three weekly flights between Hong Kong and Barcelona on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, using Airbus A350-900 aircraft with a capacity of 280 seats in three classes (38 in Business Class/28 in Premium Economy/214 in Economy), totaling a weekly offer of 1,680 seats.
In October 2022, Cathay Pacific had already resumed its flights between Hong Kong and Madrid.

In the past year, we have focused our efforts on rebuilding our network, with the resumption of the route from Madrid at the end of 2022 and, due to the great response from our customers and high demand, continuing to increase flight frequency from the capital. We are delighted to be able to reintroduce Barcelona now to continue bringing our customers closer to the destinations they love,” said Kinto Chan, General Manager of Cathay Pacific in Europe.

- Hong Kong – Barcelona flight CX 321 HKG 00:20 – 07:35 BCN / Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- Barcelona – Hong Kong flight CX 320 BCN 13:00 – 07:05 (+1) HKG / Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
With the addition of Barcelona, the company will have reinstated services to ten European destinations. Cathay Pacific currently operates in Amsterdam (AMS), Netherlands; Frankfurt (FRA), Germany; London/Heathrow (LHR) and Manchester (MAN), United Kingdom; Madrid (MAD), Spain; Paris/Charles de Gaulle (CDG), France; Milan/Malpensa (MXP) and Rome/Fiumicino (FCO), Italy, and Zurich (ZRH), Switzerland. Currently, there is no specified date for the resumption of flights to Brussels (BRU), Belgium, and London/Gatwick (LGW).
For Barcelona, the addition of this route continues the recovery of long-haul connections with Asia, complementing existing services to Beijing (Air China), Seoul (Air Premia, Asiana Airlines, and Korean Air), Singapore (Singapore Airlines), and Shenzhen (Shenzhen Airlines).
Rome is not yet resumed on Cathay. Also most European destinations are not daily, except for London. Be prepared for frequent cancellations as the airline got rid of 50% of their most senior captains and first officers, so they have no people to fly their planes even though they are now trying to upgrade the juniors as fast as possible, but it will take years and result in very different experience standard to what Cathay was known for in the past.
