VINCI Airports and Dominican Republic Seal 30-Year Extension Deal for Six Airports

The government of the Dominican Republic and VINCI Airports, through its subsidiary Aerodom, agreed to extend the concession of six airports in the country for another 30 years, originally set to expire in 2030, now extending until 2060.

This will be materialized with an upfront payment to the Dominican state of 775 million dollars, of which 300 million will be made immediately, and 475 million at the close of the first fiscal semester of 2024.

In addition, Aerodom commits to invest 830 million dollars during the concession period, of which 250 million will be allocated to the construction of a new terminal at the Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo, the main asset of the concession, which also includes the airports of Puerto Plata, Samaná, La Isabela, Barahona, and Arroyo Barril.

In addition to being one of the main tourist hubs in the Caribbean, which already guarantees a significant level of O&D traffic, the air market in the Dominican Republic is receiving renewed impetus from the establishment of Arajet in Santo Domingo, which has the vision of developing a new continental hub to serve as a counterweight to Copa in Panama or Avianca in Bogota.

VINCI Airports highlighted that since the beginning of the concession, significant modernization works of the airport terminals have been carried out, including the opening of a new cargo terminal in Santo Domingo, as well as the installation of several solar power plants totaling 7.5 MWc to decarbonize airport operations.

Aerodom was incorporated into the portfolio of VINCI Airports at the end of 2015, and between 2016 and 2019, traffic grew by an average of 6% per year, while between January and November 2023, it already exceeded 2019 levels by 17%. In 2022, Aerodom’s contribution to VINCI was 191 million euros in revenue.
