Aena has awarded the contract for the expansion of Cordoba Airport’s terminal in Spain, with an investment of 2.2 million euros. The construction is expected to have a maximum duration of one year, once administrative procedures are completed.
The new terminal will cover more than 1,000 m² and will be connected to the existing one on the north facade, on the air side. These enhancements will double the covered space, creating a 350 m² boarding area and a 350 m² baggage claim area. Additionally, the arrival’s hall will reach 100 m².
This construction builds upon the current renovations and modernizations, responding to the increasing interest of airlines in operating at Cordoba Airport.
The improvements will include the installation of a new check-in counter or an additional X-ray machine at the security checkpoint. There will also be two automatic boarding card readers and an area for passengers to line up before entering the security checkpoint.
Project Details
The project will be carried out through modular construction, allowing it to meet the same standards as traditional construction, reducing execution times by between 30% and 50%.
This construction model will have a lower environmental impact, as the area used for the project will be 80% smaller than in the traditional model. Additionally, this system will significantly reduce noise pollution.
The modernization project for Cordoba Airport also includes improvements to the surroundings, facades, renewal of pavements, and the provision of suitable road access to the new facilities. Aena has recently opened bids for more than 46,300 euros for the lighting renovation of the public parking at the airport terminal.
