SAS Expands Flights from Copenhagen to North America and Asia for Summer 2024

To address the growing enthusiasm for travel to the USA and Asia, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) is set to enhance its flight schedule, injecting additional capacity into its summer traffic program beginning March 31, 2024.

Key developments in the SAS summer program include:

  • The Copenhagen-New York (JFK) route will see a rise in frequency to two daily flights, utilizing the efficient Airbus A321LR. These complement the existing daily flights to New York-Newark with Airbus A330.

  • An additional, fourth weekly flight to Toronto from Copenhagen, accompanied by new departure times for better European and Scandinavian connections.
  • Increased flights to Asia, with services to both Shanghai and Tokyo expanding from three to four times weekly, boosting seat and cargo capacity.
  • An extended service to Bangkok until April 20th to accommodate the Easter travel surge.

Strong results in November: 10 percent increase Year Over Year

In a recent statement, SAS announced that November saw a notable upsurge in its passenger numbers, with a total of 1.8 million travelers choosing the airline. This figure marks a 10% increase in passenger volume compared to the same month in the previous year. Further underscoring this growth, SAS reported an 11% rise in capacity and a 17% escalation in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK), relative to November 2022.

The airline’s flown load factor, which measures the utilization of available seats, reached 72% in November. Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS, expressed satisfaction with these results, highlighting the improvement in regularity, which touched 99.2% for the month, and a 3.3 percentage point increase in load factor compared to the same period last year.

“We are very proud to have reached this key milestone in our SAS FORWARD plan, and it shows SAS’ potential to remain at the forefront of the airline industry for years to come,” said van der Werff.
