JAL takes delivery of its first Airbus A350-1000

Japan Airlines (JAL) is gearing up to receive its first Airbus A350-1000 on December 14, marking the beginning of the replacement of its current Boeing 777 fleet.

JAL’s Airbus A350-1000s will come equipped with a cabin designed to accommodate 239 passengers across four classes. The seat configuration will include 6 in First Class, 54 in Business, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 155 in Economy Class.

The aircraft will make its debut on the route between Tokyo Haneda (HND) and New York (JFK) on January 24, 2024. While JAL initially planned to commence operations with the A350-1000 at the end of November, it has been postponed to January 2024 due to delays in the supply chain.

Airbus A350-1000 Schedule

JAL placed a firm order for 13 Airbus A350-1000s, aimed at modernizing its wide-body fleet. Currently, the route connecting Tokyo and New York is served by Boeing 777-300 aircraft.

In the initial weeks, the route between Tokyo and New York will see flights operated by both A350-1000s and Boeing 777-300s. However, once JAL receives its second A350K, the route will be exclusively operated by the european aircraft.

In addition, JAL plans to deploy the A350-1000 on the route between Tokyo (HND) and Dallas (DFW) once the airline receives its third aircraft. This move will mark another milestone in Japan Airlines’ expansion strategy.
