Air Century Boosts Connectivity in the Caribbean with New Hub at Punta Cana International Airport

-

Air Century took a key step in its expansion by inaugurating its new hub at the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), from which it will offer in its first phase regular flights to Cartagena, St. Maarten, Havana, Aruba, and Curaçao, with the possibility of connecting between them.

The first flight was the Y2 222 from Cartagena, Colombia, which will connect with Punta Cana on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

This Tuesday also sees the inauguration of flights to St. Maarten and Havana, also with three weekly frequencies on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

December 22nd will be the turn of Aruba and Curaçao, with three weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

This strategic alliance responds to our mission to continue being the airport with the most air traffic in the Dominican Republic, receiving 69% of the tourists who arrive in our country,” said Giovanni Rainieri, Director of Airside Operations at Punta Cana International Airport.

Since its inauguration in 1983, the Punta Cana International Airport has positioned itself as the airport with the greatest connectivity in the Caribbean with flights to 64 cities in 26 countries, mobilizing 8 million passengers per year.

Its infrastructure includes two runways, 27 boarding gates, 30 aircraft parking positions and three VIP lounges, as well as its own recycling and incineration center where 60% of the waste it generates is processed.

As we had anticipated in August, moreover, from its main base at the La Isabela Airport (JBQ), north of Santo Domingo, Air Century will increase its frequencies to the Dutch Caribbean starting in December:

  • Oranjestad (AUA), Aruba; increases from 2 to 3 weekly flights with CRJ 200.
  • Cartagena (CTG), Colombia; 2 weekly flights with CRJ 200.
  • Havana (HAV), Cuba; 4 weekly flights with CRJ 200.
  • Willemstad (CUR), Curaçao; increases from 2 to 3 weekly flights with CRJ 200.
  • Port-Au-Prince (PAP), Haiti; 9 weekly flights with Jetstream 42 and CRJ 200.
  • Philipsburg (SXM), St. Maarten; increases from 2 to 3 weekly flights with CRJ 200.

Air Century’s fleet consists of two Jetstream 32s with 19 seats, three Bombardier CRJ 200s with a capacity of 50 passengers, and one ATR 72-200 (F) operated by LogicPaq. During the first half of 2023, the company transported 26,229 passengers, according to the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) of the Dominican Republic.
