easyJet advances the opening of its new base in Birmingham

easyJet announced today the early opening of its new base in Birmingham with three aircraft, meaning there will now be even more flights available from Birmingham starting March 18, 2024.

The new base with three aircraft allows the airline to expand its network in Birmingham with 16 new routes. easyJet will now offer flights on 29 routes across the UK, Europe, and North Africa, including the 13 existing domestic and international services from Birmingham.

This marks the first opening of an easyJet base in the UK in over a decade, creating around 100 direct jobs for pilots and crew and over 1,200 indirect jobs.

Ali Gayward, UK Country Manager for easyJet, said: «We are pleased to open our base in Birmingham earlier than planned, demonstrating our continued confidence in the region with customers choosing us for our trusted brand, unparalleled network, and affordable fares.»

«The investment in a ninth base in the UK strengthens easyJet’s network, positioning us as the preferred airline to serve UK consumers and meet the demand for travel, further expanding our share in the UK leisure market for both the airline and easyJet holidays,» added Gayward.

Tom Screen, Aviation Director at Birmingham Airport, noted: «Antalya, Barcelona, Berlin, Fuerteventura, Enfidha, Sharm el Sheikh, Rhodes, Dalaman, Jersey, Larnaca, Malaga, Alicante, Tenerife, Corfu, Kos, and Heraklion: 16 new destinations that easyJet will start serving in the weeks from March 2024 when they open their base with three aircraft at BHX.»

«To say we’re excited would be an understatement. This will bring jobs to the region and a greater variety of options for customers, especially as easyJet holidays solidifies its place in the Midlands market with excellent package deals,» Screen added.
