Aena Awards Contract for Drafting Expansion Projects of Terminals T4 and T4S at Madrid-Barajas

Aena has announced the progression of the expansion project for the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. The focus of this phase is the development of Terminals T4 and T4S, with an allocated budget of €10.8 million for project design.

The expansion, which is a key part of the current Airport Regulatory Document (DORA 2) covering 2022-2026, will continue into the DORA 3 period from 2027 to 2031. This strategic plan highlights Aena’s commitment to modernizing and increasing the airport’s capacity.

The contract for the Phase 2 Technical Assistance for Project Drafting has been awarded to the consortium of Ayesa Ingeniería SAU and Estudio Lamela, S.A. This phase will include the necessary engineering services for executing the works outlined in the Functional Design of T4 and T4S at the airport. It encompasses the drafting of preliminary documents and the construction projects that will define the scope of the expansion works, including commercial areas, associated equipment, furniture, and aircraft parking platforms.

Additionally, the project will see the construction of a processing building opposite Terminals T123 and the remodeling of these facilities. While the project designs for the T123 area are currently underway, the execution works will be tendered later.

The total investment in the expansion and remodeling of the Madrid-Barajas Airport, including both T4/T4S and T123 areas, is estimated to be around €2.4 billion. This includes €700 million for T123 and approximately €1.7 billion for the T4/T4S areas.

This expansion marks a significant milestone for Aena and the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, reinforcing its position as a key hub in Europe’s aviation network.
