United Airlines will expand its transatlantic network by 2024

United Airlines continues to consolidate its position as the leading US carrier in the Atlantic for the 2024 summer season. The schedule includes new nonstop service between Newark and Faro (Portugal) and new flights to Reykjavik, Rome, Brussels and Malaga. In addition, it will resume new seasonal routes to popular destinations in Portugal, Italy, France and Spain.

«United has the most flights to the most destinations across the Atlantic, and now we are giving our customers even more flexibility and choice when planning their travel abroad,» said Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of global network planning and alliances.

New service to Faro

Beginning May 24, the operator will become the first and only carrier to offer nonstop service from the United States and Faro, Portugal, with new service from Newark. The new route will be operated on Boeing 757-200 aircraft and will have a schedule of four flights per week.

United is the carrier with the most destinations and the largest capacity between the United States and Portugal. The carrier’s offerings include year-round service between Newark and Lisbon, as well as seasonal routes between Washington-Lisbon, Newark-Porto and Newark-Ponta Delgada.

More flights to Iceland, Italy, Belgium and Spain

On May 23, United will resume seasonal flights between Newark and Reykjavik for the first time since summer 2022. The service will have daily flights operated on Boeing 757-200s.

In Continental Europe, the airline will schedule a second daily flight between Newark and Brussels operated on Boeing 757-200s beginning March 30, and a second daily frequency between Washington and Rome operated on Boeing 767-300ERs beginning May 23.

In addition, United will increase its services between Newark and Malaga flying daily from May 2, the service is operated with a Boeing 757-200.

Spring service restarts

United will bring forward the return of several summer routes for the spring due to high demand. Last spring , United flew across the Atlantic with 33% more travelers than in 2022. The airline will be resuming multiple routes, including:

  • Washington Dulles – Lisbon, Portugal – beginning February 15.
  • Washington Dulles – Barcelona, Spain – beginning Feb. 15
  • Washington Dulles – Rome, Italy – beginning Feb. 15
  • New York/Newark – Nice, France – beginning March 30
  • Chicago/O’Hare – Rome, Italy – beginning March 30
  • Chicago O’Hare – Milan, Italy – as of March 30
  • New York/Newark – Naples, Italy – beginning April 5
  • New York/Newark – Malaga – starting May 2
  • San Francisco – Rome, Italy – beginning May 2
