Delta and LATAM celebrate the first anniversary of the start of their Joint Venture

Last year Delta and LATAM launched their Joint Venture, which has allowed them to launch six new routes, operate 15,000 flights, serve more than 3 million passengers and cover more than 56 million miles. With the objective of significantly optimizing travel connectivity between North America (United States and Canada) and South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay).

Delta and LATAM have launched new routes between Orlando and Bogota; and between Sao Paulo and Los Angeles, the only service between Brazil and the U.S. West Coast. Starting October 29, both airlines will start new routes and increase frequencies on existing services, with a new non-stop connection between Medellin and Miami (LATAM); from Peru there will be a new route between Lima and Atlanta (LATAM), which will complement Delta’s existing service.

In addition, the U.S. airline will add a second daily frequency between Atlanta and Bogota. Expansion continues with new routes beginning in December, with Atlanta-Cartagena starting on December 22 (Delta), and seasonal service between New York and Rio de Janeiro (Delta) beginning on December 16, and nonstop service between Atlanta and Rio de Janeiro returning on December 16 and extending throughout the year.

Seating capacity has also been increased on the Atlanta-Santiago and Atlanta-Lima (Delta) routes from 226-seat Boeing 767-300ERs to 339-seat Airbus A350-900s, representing a 50% increase in seating capacity. In addition, Atlanta-San Pablo (Delta) service increased to two daily flights.

Highlights of the first year of the Joint Venture

  • Miami, LATAM’s main destination to the United States, experienced a 10% growth in capacity, increasing connection opportunities to the 1.7 million seats to 11 cities Delta offers from Miami. This year, the U.S. carrier has added new service from Miami to Orlando, Los Angeles and Washington DC.
  • In Atlanta, partners provided nearly one million seats on 3,500 flights to South America. This growth was primarily driven by a 50% increase on major routes connecting LATAM’s main hubs such as Sao Paulo, Brazil (GRU), Bogota, Colombia (BOG), Lima, Peru (LIM) and Santiago, Chile (SCL).
  • At New York JFK, Delta and LATAM provided more than one million seats, while from Los Angeles, the partners increased capacity by 40%.
