Cathay Pacific Airways continues to re-establish its North American network with the resumption of non-stop services between Hong Kong and Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The reactivation of this route is part of the revitalization of transpacific operations at the world’s second busiest airport, reports the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and the airline.
Cathay Pacific’s last operation at Chicago was on March 27, 2020 on a flight operated on Boeing 777-300ERs with 294-seat capacity and available First Class. The airline suspended its passenger operations in the wake of the COVID-19 health crisis.
The airline will offer 2,004 seats per week to and from Chicago. The Windy City is the airline’s seventh destination in North America. Currently, Cathay Pacific and United Airlines are the only carriers offering nonstop flights between the United States and Hong Kong.

Flight schedule between Hong Kong and Chicago
Starts October 3, 2023
- Hong Kong – Chicago Flight CX 806 HKG 12:30 – ORD 14:25 Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
- Chicago – Hong Kong Flight CX 807 ORD 16:05 – HKG 20:45+1 Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The route will be operated on an Airbus A350-1000 with a capacity of 334 seats in three classes (46 Business Class/32 Premium Economy/256 Economy) and promotional fares are available from $2,044 roundtrip. Passengers arriving from Chicago will have access to Cathay Pacific’s extensive network offering multiple destinations in Australia, India, Southeast Asia, Mainland China and East Asia.
By October, Cathay Pacific will offer nearly 180,000 seats per month to and from the United States and Canada, with non-stop flights to New York JFK, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto-Pearson and Vancouver. As of August of this year, the airline has recovered 72.8% of its North American capacity compared to 2022 levels.
The new service boosts the recovery of the Chicago airline industry by strengthening the transpacific market. With the introduction of the route to Hong Kong, O’Hare International Airport will provide nonstop service to 59 international destinations in October.
