Boeing wants to increase 737 production to record levels

American aircraft manufacturer Boeing plans to increase the production of the 737 to at least 57 units per month. This goal would reach the -unmet- target that was canceled in 2019 when the MAX was grounded. Before the suspension, fifty-two 737s were being produced per month.

The formal production goal for the 737s is 50 per month for the 2025-2026 period. However, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun suggested that an increase to 60 aircraft per month could be achieved if the company continues to accumulate orders.

That said, the master supplier program, an internal company document to which Reuters had access, says otherwise. This indicates that Boeing will aim to achieve a production record of at least 57 monthly units of the 737 in July 2025. This increase in production pace reflects the rise in orders.

Both Boeing and its European rival Airbus (that this past July reaffirmed its production target of 75 units per month for its A320neo family for 2026) have set ambitious production goals as air travel and aircraft sales recover, with Airbus producing single-aisle aircraft even faster than the American manufacturer.

According to the roadmap, 737 production should reach 42 aircraft per month by December 2023. Thus, it confirms the statements made by Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ Chief Stan Deal in June. Subsequently, monthly production of the 737s, which includes the 737 MAX and previous models used as the basis for military aircraft – remembering that the 737 NG, the commercial version before the MAX, went out of production in 2019 – is scheduled to increase to 47.2 aircraft in June 2024 and 52.5 aircraft by December 2024 before reaching 57.7 aircraft per month in July 2025. An earlier version of the plan, also leaked to the public, had foreseen production of 52 aircraft per month in January 2025.

Calhoun emphasized that the second half of 2024 will be the crucial moment for the company to demonstrate its ability to stabilize its supply chain and maintain the production increase.
