Alaska Airlines Debuts its Longest Route: New York Flights for Summer 2024

-

Alaska Airlines is expanding its schedule at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport with two new seasonal routes for the 2024 summer season.

The new Anchorage and New York JFK route is an Alaska-exclusive service, with a distance of 3,385 miles, the longest route in the airline’s entire network. The flight will take 7 hours and 5 minutes eastbound and 7 hours and 45 minutes westbound. In addition, the airline for the first time will have flights between Anchorage and the east coast of the United States.

The route between Anchorage and New York will be operated on Boeing 737-8 aircraft, the first model of a 15-unit order expected to be delivered to the airline by the end of this year. Alaska currently has a fleet of 58 Boeing 737 MAX 9s with 22 orders pending, plus an order for 102 Boeing 737 MAX 10s.

«We can’t wait to welcome visitors from the city that never sleeps to the land of the midnight sun to our great state on Alaska’s new direct flight,» said Jillian Simpson, president and CEO of the Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA).

San Diego will be the third California destination Alaska connects to Anchorage, complementing its service to Los Angeles and San Francisco. In recent weeks, the airline has announced new routes from San Diego such as Zihuatanejo and Atlanta, bringing to 39 the number of destinations the carrier offers from the California airport.

«Alaskans love direct flights to and from the state. We like having great travel options and adding places like New York and San Diego definitely fit the bill,» said Marilyn Romano, Alaska Airlines regional vice president.

With the new services, Alaska will have a schedule of 14 nonstop destinations to and from Anchorage in the summer to the continental United States and Hawaii. The carrier will fly to Chicago O’Hare, Denver, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, New York JFK, Phoenix-Sky Harbor, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Seattle/Everett.
