In line with the announcement made two weeks ago, Aeromexico has introduced five new routes that take advantage of Mexico’s return to Category 1 aviation safety status by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.
In this latest update, the company establishes five connections from Mexico City, departing from Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to Boston (BOS), Salt Lake City (SLC) and Washington/Dulles (IAD). Also included are routes from Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and McAllen (MFE).
As previously announced, Aeromexico announced the addition of a total of 17 new routes from seven Mexican airports to nine destinations in the United States, most of them without competition. These new links are designed to connect with Delta Air Lines’ main hubs.
The airline aims to operate up to 60 daily flights to the United States, representing a 35% increase compared to 2023. In this way, Aeromexico will expand its presence to 21 U.S. cities.

Last week, the first routes from Guadalajara (GDL), León/Guanajuato (BJX), Querétaro (QRO), Mérida (MID) and Monterrey (MTY) to Delta Air Lines’ main hubs went on sale.
According to the reservation system, nine routes are already available for purchase and will begin operating during the first half of 2024.
AIFA with two new international destinations
It is noteworthy that Aeromexico is launching two new destinations from AIFA using Embraer 190 aircraft, with capacity for 99 passengers, which means an offer of 1.386 seats per week for each route.
Mexico City/AIFA is the third international destination to the United States after Houston/Intercontinental (IAH), which Aeromexico also operates. On the other hand, McAllen regains its connection to Mexico, previously operated by the now-defunct Aeromar.

The recovery of three destinations from Mexico City
Aeromexico expands service to Boston, Salt Lake City and Washington/Dulles. Although these are not new destinations for the company, they represent a significant recovery.
To Boston it operated between June 2015 and January 2019, while to Washington it operated between May 2012 and December 2018. Finally, to Salt Lake City it operated briefly between December 2017 and March 2018, but the company will also fly to Utah’s capital from Guadalajara (GDL) and Monterrey.
Now, the three reclaimed destinations will be covered on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, seating 160 passengers, will provide an offering of 2,240 seats per week.
