#TBT: Aerolíneas Argentinas flights between Mar del Plata and Uruguay in 1987

Aerolíneas Argentinas confirmed this week that it will start flights between Mar del Plata and Montevideo as from January 2024. The company will have two weekly services during the summer season with Embraer 190 aircraft, configured for 96 passengers.

At present, Mar del Plata airport has no international flights. All operations are domestic, shared between Aerolíneas Argentinas and LADE.

Aerolíneas Argentinas operates to Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, Comodoro Rivadavia, Córdoba, Mendoza, Río Gallegos and Trelew, while the Argentine Air Force’s development airline connects Mar del Plata with Bahía Blanca, Bariloche and Buenos Aires.

In the 1980s, Aerolíneas Argentinas had operated between Mar del Plata and Uruguay. In that case, services were on a triangular basis with Buenos Aires and Punta del Este, once a week.

The flights lasted for a short period of time, remaining again the airport with domestic operations.

Later on, Mar del Plata had some non-scheduled international flights. Aerosur, LADECO, LAPA and TAM operated this type of flights at the Astor Piazzola airport.
