Qatar Airways Cargo began flights to Huntsville

-

Qatar Airways Cargo began bi-weekly cargo flights from Huntsville (USA) to Doha (Qatar), thanks to a partnership with DSV Global Transportation and Logistics. This strategic partnership will be optimizing North America’s connectivity with Europe, the Middle East and beyond. The first service began on September 7, 2023.

The route, dubbed “Gateway Star” by DSV, will have twice-weekly flights operated by Boeing 777Fs from Mexico City’s Felipe Angeles International Airport to Huntsville, arriving in Doha via Luxembourg. The freighter aircraft from Huntsville will operate on Thursdays and Sundays each week, providing 200 tons of capacity.

We are excited about this new partnership with DSV. This strategic initiative not only expands DSV’s market reach, but also establishes regular direct service from Mexico City to Europe, the Middle East and beyond via the strategic hubs of Huntsville, USA and Luxembourg,” said Elisabeth Oudkerk, SVP Cargo Sales and Network Planning, Qatar Airways Cargo.

The main exports from Huntsville to be moved on Qatar Airways Cargo flights are vehicles and perishable cargo from Mexico, as well as auto parts from various European manufacturers. With the introduction of the service to Huntsville, the Qatar carrier provides 22 destinations in the Americas with cargo and belly passenger flights, with a combined weekly capacity of more than 5,500 tons.

This new air cargo service underscores our unwavering commitment to revolutionize logistics and offer unprecedented connectivity to our valued customers. By collaborating with Qatar Airways Cargo, we are not only expanding our market presence, but also creating seamless gateways to the Middle East, with a particular focus on boosting our oil and gas vertical,” said Mads Ravn, Executive Vice President of DSV

Qatar Airways Cargo has a hub at Hamad International Airport in Doha, and has a global network of more than 70 dedicated cargo destinations and more than 150 passenger destinations. All these services are operated by freighter aircraft and passenger flights in the hold. The company’s freighter fleet includes two Boeing 747-8s, two Boeing 747-400s, 26 Boeing 777s and one Airbus 310, as well as an extensive road shuttle service.

In 2022, 140,173,350 tons of cargo were moved at Huntsville International Airport, this represents 5.5% increase in capacity compared to 2021 levels. In addition, Huntsville is consolidating its position as North Alabama’s premier airport.
