Azores Airlines launches transatlantic flights from Porto

-

Azores Airlines will establish a new base in Porto for the 2024 summer season, offering new services to Canada and the United States. The airline will become the fifth carrier to provide transatlantic flights at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, joining Air Transat, Iberojet, TAP Air Portugal, and United Airlines.

The new generation of Airbus A321LR aircraft has enabled Azores to expand its operations with additional point-to-point transatlantic routes, without requiring a widebody aircraft. The new services to New York JFK, Boston, and Toronto from Porto will complement existing schedules from Lajes and Ponta Delgada to North America.

At present, narrowbody aircraft dominate the market between America and Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. United operates Boeing 757s, while Air Transat and TAP Air Portugal utilize Airbus A321LRs for their flights to North America. Transatlantic services operating with widebody aircraft in Porto include TAP’s routes to Brazil, Iberojet’s charter flights, and Air Transat’s route to Toronto.

In addition, Azores Airlines from Porto will offer two daily flights to Ponta Delgada and one daily flight to Lajes for the summer of 2024, both services to be operated on Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 168 seats.
