Volaris Dominates Mexican Aviation: Launches 41 New Routes, nine to Boost Querétaro Network

Volaris launched a significant expansion in the Mexican market through the addition of 41 new domestic routes from 30 cities located in 17 states. This unprecedented expansion, which began on July 10, coincides with the start of the summer season and is expected to boost tourism and cultural exchange in the country.

One of the highlights of this expansion is the increase in routes from Querétaro (QRO), with the inauguration of five new destinations, four of which are unexplored. Starting on July 10 and 11, the city will be connected with Ciudad Juárez (CJS), Culiacán (CUL), Los Cabos (SJD), Mexicali (MXL), and Zihuatanejo (ZIH). All these new routes will be operated by Airbus A320neo aircraft, with a capacity for 186 passengers.

These destinations will join Cancún (CUN), Tijuana (TIJ), Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and Chicago/O’Hare (ORD), United States, bringing the total number of destinations operated by Volaris in Querétaro to nine.

According to the Cirium platform, Volaris plans to offer up to 16,000 seats per week, positioning itself as the leading airline at Querétaro International Airport.

  • Querétaro-Ciudad Juárez with a capacity of 744 seats per week

  • Querétaro-Culiacán with a capacity of 1,116 seats per week
    • Y4 1137 QRO 13:05 – 13:44 CUL / Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
    • Y4 1136 CUL 07:15 – 09:45 QRO / Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • Querétaro-Mexicali with a capacity of 744 seats per week
    • Y4 1151 QRO 12:05 – 14:06 MXL / Tuesday and Saturday.
    • Y4 1150 MXL 07:13 – 11:00 QRO / Tuesday and Saturday.
  • Querétaro-San Jose de los Cabos with a capacity of 1,488 seats per week
    • Y4 316 QRO 14:00 – 15:00 SJD / Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
    • Y4 317 SJD 10:46 – 13:30 QRO / Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
  • Querétaro-Zihuatanejo with a capacity of 1,116 seats per week
    • Y4 351 QRO 10:15 – 11:11 ZIH / Wednesday and Friday.
    • Y4 350 ZIH 11:41 – 12:35 QRO / Wednesday and Friday.

Volaris, the leading airline of Mexico

Indeed, Volaris has become the leading airline in Mexico in terms of passenger movement. During the first half of 2023, the company transported a total of 16,558,000 passengers, representing an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year. Additionally, this growth is even more significant when compared with 2019, with a growth of 55.9%.

As for the Volaris fleet in Mexico, it consists of 115 aircraft:

  • 1 Airbus A319ceo, which is scheduled to be retired soon.
  • 40 Airbus A320ceo.
  • 45 Airbus A320neo, and 14 additional aircraft on order.
  • 10 Airbus A321ceo.
  • 19 Airbus A321neo, and 111 more aircraft on order.
