Iberojet expands its summer schedule with the start of two charter services from Oporto and the Caribbean. The leisure airline continues to offer travelers more options from Spain and Portugal to fly to the most popular vacation destinations in Central America, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Cuba.
Oporto – Cancun
On July 19, Iberojet began non-stop flights between Porto and Cancun, complementing its service from Lisbon. Flight O6 865 in an Airbus A330-900neo registered as CS-TKH, the aircraft departed Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) at 13:42 local time and arrived at Cancun International Airport (CUN) at 16:26, after eight hours and 44 minutes.
The inaugural event of this new service was attended by representatives of ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, the Embassy of Mexico and Portugal and the Honorary Consulate of Mexico, Iberojet and Portway.
According to information compiled by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), in the period between January – May 2023, 57,252 passengers were mobilized with an occupancy factor of 82% between Mexico and Portugal in 232 operations, an increase of 7% compared to the same period last year. Iberojet is the second largest airline operator in this market with a 23.5% share.
Porto – Punta Cana
The Ávoris airline continues to increase its presence in the Dominican Republic for the summer season with a second route from Portugal with the aim of expanding its offer in the Portuguese market and extending the range of destinations from secondary cities.
On July 18, Iberojet will resume its charter service between Oporto and Punta Cana, which will be added to the airline’s operations from the Portuguese capital. Flight 6O 853 was operated in an Airbus A330neo, which took off from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) at 14:44 local time and landed at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) at 17:20, after seven hours and 44 minutes.
According to data obtained through the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), 10,404 passengers were mobilized in 2022 between Porto and Punta Cana. Iberojet also consolidated its position as one of the main leisure airlines, transporting 147,543 passengers between the Dominican Republic and Europe.
Growth in Portugal
The additional services from Cancun and Punta Cana boost the intercontinental connectivity of Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, extending the offer to more vacation destinations in the Caribbean.
In addition to operations in Oporto, Iberojet has non-stop services from Lisbon to Punta Cana, Cancun and Varadero. All routes are scheduled once a week and are operated by Airbus A330neo aircraft with a capacity of 388 seats. In total, the Ávoris airline offers 2,328 weekly seats between the Portuguese capital and the Caribbean
