Etihad Airways’ Airbus A380 Superjumbo Completes Major Check at HAECO Xiamen

HAECO Xiamen announced the successful completion of its first 6Y Check on an Etihad Airways Airbus A380. The aircraft had been parked for three years during the pandemic, and this milestone signals its much-anticipated return to service.

Etihad Airways has decided to reintroduce its A380 fleet back into operation, and the MRO service provider has delivered comprehensive heavy maintenance and cabin refurbishment services, supporting the carrier’s decision to bring back the Superjumbo to the skies.

Gerald Steinhoff, Chief Commercial Officer of the HAECO Group, expressed his gratitude towards Etihad Airways for selecting them for this significant project. «As a leading global MRO service provider, HAECO is honoured to have partnered with Etihad Airways, backed by our longstanding experience and reputation of maintaining A380 aircraft to the highest quality and on-time performance delivery,» he said.

The announcement also saw Paul Kear, Senior Vice President of Technical at Etihad Airways, express his satisfaction with the partnership and excitement for the return of the A380. He praised HAECO Xiamen’s technical expertise and long-term experience, acknowledging their role in the successful return of the aircraft to service.

HAECO Xiamen is well-equipped with six double bay widebody hangars, enabling it to accommodate 12 widebody and five narrowbody aircraft simultaneously. Offering airframe services across all major commercial aircraft types, the provider also handles maintenance checks, modifications, cabin reconfigurations, and passenger-to-freighter conversions.

Currently, HAECO Xiamen is constructing the world’s largest single span aircraft maintenance hangar at Xiamen Xiang’an International Airport. The state-of-the-art facility aims to optimize energy utilization and operational efficiency, thereby reducing aircraft maintenance turnaround times and enhancing punctuality.
