WestJet began flights to Minneapolis

On June 2, WestJet initiated non-stop flights between Edmonton and Minneapolis/St. Paul. This new route enhances the connectivity of Alberta to the Midwestern United States.

Flight WS 1546, operated on a Boeing 737 registered as C-GWSO, departed from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) at 09:56 local time, reaching Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) at 13:20, a flight duration of two hours and 24 minutes.

This summer, WestJet is set to increase its cross-border capacity from Edmonton by over 150% and has positioned itself as the 16th airline to operate out of Minneapolis/St. Paul in 2023. The airline is also scheduled to start a non-stop service between Saskatoon and Minneapolis on June 19, with three flights per week.

Chris Avery, WestJet’s Vice President of Network Planning, Alliances, and Business Development, remarked, «With our new service connecting Edmonton and Minneapolis, WestJet is contributing to the economic prosperity of the communities we serve by implementing strategic routes that stimulate key business and tourism opportunities«.

  • Edmonton – Minneapolis/St. Paul Flight WS 1546 YEG 09:45 – MSP 13:16 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
  • Minneapolis/St. Paul – Edmonton Flight WS 1547 MSP 14:20 – YEG 16:14 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The route is served by Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 aircraft, accommodating 132 and 174 passengers respectively, with promotional roundtrip fares available from USD 317.
From Edmonton, WestJet’s international network extends to Cancun, Honolulu, Huatulco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Orlando, Kahului/Maui, Phoenix – Sky Harbor, Palm Springs, Puerto Vallarta, and San Jose del Cabo.

Increased connectivity to the U.S. from Delta hubs

Through their cross-border partnership with Delta Air Lines, passengers connecting through Minneapolis can access an extensive U.S. network provided by the U.S. carrier to popular destinations such as Boston, Miami, New York, Washington DC, and others.
WestJet is expanding its U.S. network with new service to Delta hubs, including Detroit and Atlanta. By the summer season of 2023, the airline plans to offer 113,804 weekly seats between Canada and the United States.
