Viva Aerobus began non-stop flights between Monterrey and Bogota

Viva Aerobus boosts Nuevo Leon’s international connectivity with the start of non-stop flights between Monterrey and Bogota. With this new service, the low-cost airline is the only carrier to connect the Colombian capital with four Mexican cities.

Viva Aerobus Expands Domestic and International Routes, Adds Flights to Colombia and Ecuador

In an inaugural ceremony held on June 12 at the Monterrey International Airport and headed by the Secretary of Tourism of the Federal Government, Miguel Torruco Marqués; the Secretary of Tourism of Nuevo León, Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal; the Consul General of Colombia in Mexico, Andrés Hernández Ramírez; the Director of Airport Operations of OMA, Enrique Navarro and the CEO of Viva Aerobus, Juan Carlos Zuazua, among other local authorities and special guests.

Flight VB 694 was operated in an Airbus A321neo registered as XA-VBB. The aircraft departed General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) at 18:42 local time and arrived at El Dorado International Airport (BOG) at 00:12 the following day, after four hours and 28 minutes.

Viva Aerobus Monterrey Bogota

Viva Aerobus first landed in Colombia in August 2021 and last year the airline moved 186,724 passengers with an occupancy factor of 66% and 29.7 tons of cargo according to Aerocivil data.

The company’s current schedule to Bogota includes daily flights from Mexico City and Cancun, in addition to services to Guadalajara and Monterrey, both of which operate two weekly flights. In total, Viva Aerobus offers 6,692 seats per week between Mexico and Colombia according to Cirium.

Flight schedule between Monterrey and Bogota

  • Monterrey – Bogota Flight VB 694 MTY 18:15 – BOG 00:15 Thursday and Sunday.
  • Bogota – Monterrey Flight VB 695 BOG 01:15 – MTY 05:25 Monday and Friday.

The route is operated in Airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 186 passengers in configuration and promotional fares are available from 77 USD for a single trip.

With this new route, Viva Aerobus boosts its leadership in northern Mexico. The low cost airline currently operates 70 daily flights and 31 domestic destinations to and from Nueva Leon, and provides international service to Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Havana and Bogota.

General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) is a strategic hub for Viva Aerobus and aims to consolidate opportunities that boost both tourism and business. Between January and April, the low cost airline mobilized more than 2.4 million passengers to and from Monterrey, an increase of 32% compared to the same period in 2022.

International traffic to and from the capital of Nuevo Leon continues to increase steadily. According to reports from OMA Aeropuertos in the period from January to April 2023, 686,903 international passengers were mobilized in Monterrey, this represents an increase of 28% compared to 2019 levels.

According to data obtained through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), between January and April 2023, 633,793 passengers were mobilized with an occupancy factor of 76.7% in Mexico and Colombia in 4,680 operations. This represents an increase of 5% compared to last year’s levels.
