Air New Zealand is adding 2,000 extra seats on its trans-Tasman segment to meet demand from travelers for Taylor Swift’s «The Eras Tour» in Australia.
Recently, the American singer announced the international dates for her ongoing Tour including shows in Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, but ruling out New Zealand for the time being.
Pre-sale tickets for the Australian concerts sold out in a matter of hours. It was reported that four million people had tried to access the box office to purchase tickets for the concerts, with 800,000 people waiting before the sale began.
In response to the increased demand for «The Eras Tour» from the Kiwis, Air New Zealand will schedule extra flights from Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland to Sydney and Melbourne in February.
There was also a significant increase in fares on trans-Tasman routes following the announcement of Taylor Swift’s arrival in Australia.
«When Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour dates were released last week, we saw a surge in demand for the final day of our Tasman sale, with more than 3,500 Kiwis booking flights to coincide with the concert dates«, said Leanne Geraghty, Air New Zealand’s Head of Sales.
«Now, with the launch of the general sale tomorrow, we expect another surge in travel demand.» To bring more Swifties to Australia, we have added more than 2,000 seats around the concert dates so fans can travel to the show in ‘Style’ with Air New Zealand«, added Geraghty.
Some of Air New Zealand’s special flights will have the call sign «NZ1989» in honor of Taylor Swift’s fifth studio album and the Kiwi Swifties.
