Qantas resumes flights between Perth and Rome

Qantas has resumed seasonal flights between Perth and Rome – Fiumicino on June 17, marking the return of the popular route for the second consecutive year. The airline will provide more than 22,000 seats on this segment between Australia and Italy over a four-month period.

Flight QF 5 was operated by a Boeing 787 registered as VH-ZNC and named «Quokka». The aircraft departed Perth Airport (PER) at 02:27 local time and landed at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) at 11:59 after 15 hours and 32 minutes.

This service is the only non-stop connection between Australia and mainland Europe offered by any airline. Qantas has also confirmed that it will operate this route for a third year and that flights for 2024 will be available for sale in early July 2024.

«Our Perth-Rome route was one of the most popular on our international network last year and bookings indicate it will be again. We also saw many customers using Rome as a gateway to mainland Europe, then connecting to our partner network, with Sicily, Athens and Barcelona among the top destinations last year«, said Cameron Wallace, CEO of Qantas International.

Qantas flight schedule to Rome

  • Perth – Rome Flight QF 5 PER 22:50 – FCO 08:50+1 Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Rome – Perth Flight QF 6 FCO 10:50 – PER 08:30+1 Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Route details
  • The service will be available until October 3, 2023 and resumes for the 2024 summer season.

The route is operated on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with a capacity of 236 seats in three classes (42 Business Class/28 Premium Economy/166 Economy) and promotional fares are available from EUR 1,828 round trip.

Qantas has an interline agreement with ITA Airways allowing customers to connect from Rome – Fiumicino to 16 cities in Europe such as Geneva, Nice and Madrid, and to 14 destinations in Italy including Milan and Venice.

In 2022, Italy ranked as Western Australia’s 11th largest international visitor market. The non-stop service between Perth and Rome has proven to be a game changer for the state’s economy, according to Roger Cook, Premier of Western Australia.

Business Class passengers flying from Rome to Perth will receive a limited edition Qantas amenity kit, launched in partnership with Tourism Western Australia, featuring artwork by Western Australian Wongi artist Kevin Wilson.

Qantas has a schedule of 15 domestic routes in Western Australia and three international routes from Perth to Singapore, London and Rome. The airline operates year-round daily services from London – Heathrow on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and Singapore on Airbus A330s.
