Iberia has requested the Civil Aeronautics to increase its operations on the Madrid – Bogota – Madrid route from 18 to 21 weekly flights. The flights will be operated in Airbus A350-900 aircraft with a capacity of 348 seats in three classes (31 Business Class/24 Premium Economy/293 Economy).
The IAG airline mobilized 432,609 passengers with an occupancy factor of 85% and 6,988.7 tons of cargo in 2022 between Spain and Colombia in 1,468 operations according to data compiled through Aerocivil statistics. The company in the same year increased passenger traffic by almost 20% compared to 2019 levels.
If the increase in operations materializes, the Colombian capital would be the second Latin American destination where Iberia offers three daily flights, complementing the service to Mexico City. In addition, this possible increase in frequencies would be the company’s largest offer of seats in Colombia in its history.
According to data compiled by Aviacioline through Aena Estadísticas, 1,095,936 passengers and 24,515.2 tons of cargo were mobilized in 2022 between Madrid and Bogota in 4,252 operations. The Colombian capital is the main intercontinental destination of Adolfo Suarez Airport in terms of passenger traffic.
Iberia currently competes in this market with Avianca, Air Europa and Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas and is the second largest airline in terms of seats per kilometers offered (ASK) according to Cirium.
