Brazil Government to Launch USD 40 Airfares for People Who Haven’t Traveled by Plane in a Year

-

The Minister of Ports and Airports of Brazil, Márcio França, has detailed how the program «Voa Brasil» for popular airfares will work.

The program will offer air tickets at a unique price of R$ 200 (Brazilian Reais) and is expected to come into effect in August. According to Minister França, the government will launch an app in which interested parties must register with their CPF (Brazil’s tax identification number). To access this benefit, citizens must not have traveled by plane during the last twelve months, reports our affiliated media in Brazil, Aeroin.

Each person will have the right to four annual tickets, each one at R$ 200. França explained that the tickets will be sold for seats that are currently unoccupied in flights. It is estimated that between the months of March and November, approximately 21% of the seats are not occupied, the minister reported.

«Our country flies a third of what Colombians and Chileans fly, we need to catch up with them. Therefore, the flight at R$ 200 will allow you and your family to plan an annual trip«, he said.

The minister also reported that negotiations are underway for low-cost airlines to begin operating in Brazil. These companies have lower fares as they do not offer some services compared to other traditional airlines.

Data released by IATA during the last AGM in Istanbul show that Brazil has a rate of 0.45 annual trips per capita, while in Chile this figure is 1.21 and in Colombia 1.26.

Vuelos per cápita en América.

So far, it has not been clarified how the usage regulation will be (if the proposal will be maintained only for retirees, public servants, and students) and which companies have decided to participate in the program, as well as the advance with which tickets must be purchased.

There is a similar benefit for bus trips, but its use is quite complicated, as it is only for tickets in conventional class, and companies end up offering trips only in the Executive category with air conditioning or superior.
