The fifth prototype of the Korean KF-21 Boramae fighter took flight for the first time

The fifth prototype of the Korean KF-21 Boramae fighter successfully completed its first test flight.

The aircraft took off for the first time on May 16 at 14:19 (local time), from Sacheon Air Base, home of the 3rd Training Wing of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) and the headquarters of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).

After about 45 minutes of flight, the fifth Boramae prototype, under the command of KAI chief pilot Lee Dong-gyu, landed safely at 15:04.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) reported that the No. 5 prototype will mainly conduct avionics performance verification tests, such as the AESA radar, and is scheduled to conduct aerial refueling tests in the second half of this year

Following today’s success, five KF-21 Boramae prototypes have now successfully completed their maiden flight, including four single-seat aircraft (prototypes n°1, 2, 3 and 5) and one of the two tandem-seat aircraft (unit n°4).

The last of the two-seat prototypes, unit n°6, is due to make its first test flight in June.
