Poland confirmed purchase of Hellfire missiles for AW149 and AH-64E Apache helicopters

The Polish Ministry of Defense reported the signing of the contract for the supply of Hellfire missiles to be used to arm AW149 and AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters.

Mariusz Blaszczak, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, confirmed on his social networks the signing of the contract for the purchase of AGM-114R2 Hellfire missiles, the purchase of which had been requested from the US government in March.

According to information published by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), Poland was authorized to purchase a significant batch of AGM-114R2 Hellfire missiles for $150 million.

Specifically, the package offered by the U.S. Government to Poland consists of 800 missiles and four Hellfire captive air-training missiles, as well as technical assistance, spare parts, publications, training, etc.

Misil Hellfire II

Lockheed Martin’s AGM114R HELLFIRE II Model R multirole missile, or «Romeo» missile, features a multipurpose warhead that allows a single HELLFIRE missile to cover all targets of currently available laser-guided variants.

AW149 Hellfire II
The Polish AW149 will be able to mount up to eight Hellfire II missiles.

It is equipped with an inertial navigation unit to approach the approximate target area and a laser terminal guidance system to accurately hit the target.

Poland will equip its 32 AW149 multirole helicopters (to be manufactured locally by Leonardo/ PZL-Świdnik) and its future 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters with this powerful air-to-ground armament.
