Breeze Airways has applied to the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) for approval to begin operating a weekly flight between Los Angeles (LAX) and Los Cabos (SJD) in Mexico. If approved, it would become the first international route for the low-cost carrier founded in 2021.
Breeze Airways wants to land in Mexico
The airline, which plans to carry up to 5.720 passengers a year between the two airports, would use Airbus A220-300 aircraft with 137 seats. It has so far ordered eighty such aircraft and has already taken delivery of twelve.
If the government department gives the go-ahead, the carrier could launch scheduled services next November. However, the company has not yet provided further details about the planned operating days and schedules.

A busy route
Breeze Airways launched commercial operations in May 2021. It performed well initially, in part due to its business model focusing on routes and destinations where other carriers have little presence. However, the Los Angeles-Los Cabos route is far from being underserved.
There are currently six U.S. airlines operating regularly between the two airports: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, United Airlines and Spirit together offer up to 20.000 seats per week in both directions. In this context, Breeze Airways would face strong competition.
The large offer is explained especially by the popularity of the city of San José del Cabo among American tourists. In fact, Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) has more direct flights to Los Angeles than to any other city in the United States.
