Duncan Aviation and Gogo Business Aviation Partner for 5G Connectivity in Executive Aircraft

-

Duncan Aviation and Gogo Business Aviation are collaboratively developing a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the Gogo 5G system to be utilized by various executive aircraft, enabling enhanced onboard connectivity.

Lack of knowledge about 5G complicates E175 operations in the United States

This will provide increased security compared to conventional equipment and reduce interference. Dave Salvador, Vice President of Gogo’s aftermarket channel, anticipates the launch of the 5G service by year-end according to a company press release.

The STCs will be available for the following aircraft:
  • Bombardier Global Express, 5000, XRS, 5500, 6000, 6500
  • Bombardier Challenger CL-650, CL-605, CL-604
  • Bombardier Challenger 300, 350
  • Gulfstream GIV, G300, G400
  • Gulfstream GIV-X, G350, G450
  • Citation 560XL, XLS, XLS+

Duncan Aviation Sales Manager Nate Klenke expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, «We are pleased to cooperate in developing technology that benefits onboard connectivity for private operators.» As industry leaders in type certification, they deliver connectivity solutions that enable maximum use of Gogo’s 5G network.

Operators with existing Avance L5 equipment will have the necessary support to upgrade to Gogo 5G. To this end, the company is offering up to $100,000 in reimbursements through the First to Fly promotion. Until the 5G LRU X3 becomes available, aircraft can utilize Gogo’s 4G network.

Ultimately, Gogo 5G is designed to offer high performance with very low latency, operating between 3.7 and 3.97GHz, to accommodate the demand for data-intensive services and apps, such as video conferencing and social networking. The 5G chip underwent a critical review earlier this year, and the company expects to launch it in the market by mid-August.
