Conviasa Resumes Regular Flights Between Venezuela and Syria

As we had anticipated, Conviasa launched its regular flights between Caracas and Damascus this Tuesday, marking its return to the Syrian capital after over 10 years.

The inaugural flight took off at 15:41 local time (19:41 UTC), operated by an Airbus A340-600 with the registration YV-3535, expected to arrive in Damascus at 10:22 local time on Wednesday.

Following the instructions of our president Nicolás Maduro, promoting the expansion of our airline Conviasa, today we reached international connection number 12 with the Caracas – Damascus route“, said Ramón Celestino Velásquez Araguayán, Minister of the People’s Power for Transport and President of Conviasa. The official also announced the launch of a route between Havana and Moscow, thus enhancing the Cuban capital’s role as a base for the airline.

The flight between Caracas and Damascus will make a stopover in Tehran/IKA, Iran, and operate every 15 days, following the current schedule with the Iranian capital.

In 2012, Conviasa had already operated a similar route between the three capitals, although the connection to Damascus was made only once.

Passengers checking in for the inaugural flight of Conviasa to Damascus – 30MAY2023

The last time Conviasa announced the return of flights between Caracas and Damascus was in January 2020 with the inaugural flight scheduled for March. All this was put on hold following the outbreak of the pandemic. Tehran, on the other hand, has been operated regularly since June 2022.

International flights of Conviasa

In addition to Damascus, the international network planned for June by Conviasa also includes flights connecting Caracas with Havana, Lima, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Mexico City (AIFA), Cancun, Tehran, and Moscow. It also flies between Manaus and Puerto Ordaz, Las Piedras and Havana, Havana – Kingstown, and Havana and Managua, Nicaragua. The network reflects much of the specific political alignment Venezuela has with Cuba, Bolivia, México, Nicaragua, Russia and Iran.

Its wide-body aircraft fleet is made up of one Airbus A340-300 and two A340-600s.
