Atlantic Airways has begun marketing its flights between the Faroe Islands and New York, which will start on 22 August and run until 10 October. The carrier, which will operate the route with Airbus A320neo, will become the only one to use this type of aircraft on transatlantic flights.
The airline began studying the possibility of launching services to the American city in 2019, especially with the intention of attracting potential tourists interested in visiting the archipelago, known for its natural and historical attractions.

Atlantic Airways to fly between Tórshavn and New York
Finally, in March this year, Atlantic Airways confirmed that it would launch flights between Vágar Airport (FAE), the only one in the Faroe Islands, and Stewart International Airport (SWF), located almost 100 kilometres north of Manhattan in New York City.
The company will offer one flight per week in both directions. The Airbus A320neo will depart from the air terminal serving Tórshavn on Tuesdays and arrive at their destination after a flight of just over seven hours. They will return the following day and land again in the Faroe Islands after a journey of about six hours.
Jóhannu á Bergi, CEO of Atlantic Airways, has repeatedly stated that the aircraft type chosen is ideal for this route, due to its maximised range and the possibility of operating to secondary airports. The airplanes have an interior configuration of 174 seats in a single class.
The Faroe Islands and Atlantic Airways
Atlantic Airways is a key carrier to the Faroe Islands. In recent years, it has increased its presence at some of Europe’s largest airports. Currently, its main destinations are Aalborg (AAL), Billund (BLL), Copenhagen (CPH), Reykjavík (KEF) and Oslo (OSL).
In addition, it operates most of the year to Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Edinburgh (EDI) and Gran Canaria (LPA). During the northern summer season it also offers connections to Barcelona (BCN) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI).
