An Argentinean airport resumed commercial flights after a 10-year hiatus

On Thursday, May 25th, the first commercial flight from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery arrived at Iberá airport in Mercedes. The operations will be carried out in Embraer 145s of American Jet, marketed by tourism agencies.

Flights between Buenos Aires and Mercedes will have a frequency of two weekly services with the aforementioned aircrafts, which are configured for 50 passengers in single class.

Iberá airport receives commercial flights again after 10 years, since the last services had been provided by Macair Jet in 2013.

  • AJ 524/525: Thursdays and Sundays.

The flights will allow access to packages of 3, 4 and 7 nights in Mercedes, which is emerging as one of the main tourist destinations in the Northeast of Argentina. The wetlands of the Estero have a great variety of flora and fauna, which makes it possible to enjoy ecotourism and a greater contact with the nature of the region.

Iberá Airport is located about 4 kilometers south of Mercedes.

The runway, with orientation 03/21, is asphalted and is 1800 meters long and 30 meters wide. It has a 45° exit road 410 meters long by 15 meters wide that connects to the 6,000 square meter apron.

The airport was built in 1965 and in 2012 was inaugurated works of readjustment and modernization of the airport to allow the operations of Macair/LAER.

These works included the construction of a 250 square meter passenger terminal, resurfacing of the runway and taxiway, installation of a low intensity beaconing system, among others.
