Volaris is consolidating its position as the largest Mexican airline operator in the main markets of the United States. In the state of California, the company recorded a 23% increase in its seat supply during 2022, mobilizing 2 million travelers. During the same period, the carrier handled 511,000 passengers in Texas and 182 thousand in Florida.

The low-cost airline connects California through six of its airports (Los Angeles, Sacramento, Oakland, Ontario, Fresno and San Jose), from where it offers 24 routes in Mexico and one in El Salvador with a fleet of 12 aircraft dedicated to the region where the airline has mobilized more than 16 million passengers since it began operations in 2009.

Volaris routes in California

  • Los Angeles (LAX): Aguascalientes (AGU), Leon/Bajio (BJX), Guadalajara (GDL), Mexico City (MEX), Morelia (MLM), Oaxaca (OAX), Uruapan (UPN), Zacatecas (ZCL) and San Salvador (SAL).
  • Sacramento (SMF): León/Bajío (BJX), Guadalajara (GDL) and Mexico City (MEX).

In Florida the company serves the main airports in the region Orlando (MCO) and Miami (MIA), where it serves with one aircraft and operates five routes: Cancun (CUN) – Orlando (MCO), Guadalajara (GDL) – Orlando (MCO), Mexico City (MEX) – Orlando (MCO), Guadalajara (GDL) – Miami (MIA) and Mexico City (MEX) – Miami (MIA). Since the start of operations in July 2012, the company has moved one million passengers.

«California, Texas and Florida are among the most important international destinations due to their great potential for the VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) segment, as there are large communities of Mexicans and Central Americans living in the area. Since we began operations to the United States, we have focused on offering the greatest number of routes so that they can be close to their loved ones,» said Omar Carrera, commercial director of Volaris.

Volaris is the airline with the largest share of the Mexican market with a 42% market share. During 2022 it mobilized 30.9 million passengers, increased its fleet from 101 to 107 aircraft and its routes from 185 to 200, consolidating its position as the largest airline in Mexico for the fourth consecutive year.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), Volaris in 2022 mobilized 4,759,880 passengers and 413.6 tons internationally in 35,216 operations. The Mexican low-cost airline currently offers non-stop service to the United States, Central America and South America.
