South Africa: British Airways and Airlink begin codeshare agreement

British Airways will begin a codeshare partnership with Airlink, strengthening connectivity from the UK, Europe and North America to more than fifteen destinations in Southern Africa.

Airlink is a full-service regional airline based in Johannesburg (JNB), Cape Town (CPT) and Durban (DUR) in South Africa and has a network to 14 countries including Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia.

The agreement means that the British airline’s customers traveling from or transiting from London will be able to connect to their final destination via Johannesburg (JNB) or Cape Town (CPT). This will provide more choice and flexibility for those traveling to the 18 destinations included in the partnership such as Windhoek in Namibia and Durban in South Africa.

«This is an important next step in our partnership with British Airways, which has phenomenal global reach in our region’s most important markets. Bringing our two networks together will benefit both British Airways and Airlink customers, giving them even more choice with a wide range of itinerary options and connectivity possibilities,» said Rodger Foster, chief executive officer and managing director of Airlink.

British Airways currently operates twice daily between London – Heathrow (LHR) and Johannesburg (JNB) on Airbus A380 aircraft and in Cape Town (CPT) offers twice daily flights from London – Heathrow (LHR) on Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 777-200ER and three weekly flights from London – Gatwick (LGW) on Boeing 777-200ER.

Members of the British airline’s frequent flyer program, Executive Club can earn Avios when flying on Airlink on a codeshare trip with British Airways.

Our partnership with Airlink means customers will be able to book a full journey on a single ticket, allowing them to travel seamlessly from London to their final destination,» Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Networks and Partnerships.

In total, 18 destinations are available as codeshare options on flights from Heathrow (LHR) via Johannesburg (JNB) and Cape Town (CPT), such as:

London Heathrow to Durban via Johannesburg.
London Heathrow to Port Elizabeth via Cape Town or Johannesburg.
London Heathrow to Skukuza via Cape Town or Johannesburg.
London Heathrow to Windhoek, Namibia, via Cape Town or Johannesburg.
London Heathrow to Walvis Bay, Namibia, via Cape Town or Johannesburg.
