On February 9 Scandinavian Airlines SAS began non-stop operations between Copenhagen (CPH) and New York (JFK) operated on Airbus A321LR, the carrier’s ninth destination in North America. In addition, the company will continue to offer flights between the Danish capital and Newark (EWR).
With this new route to John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), the airline will offer convenient schedules for customers to fly to the New York metropolitan area. SAS will initially offer five weekly flights on this route during the winter schedule and then increase to daily flights for the summer season.
«We are delighted to inaugurate our new route to JFK. SAS already offers a strong product to Newark Airport from Scandinavia, and we believe this addition to JFK from Copenhagen will strengthen the New York offering for our customers. The United States is a strategic market for SAS and we will continue to develop new routes and destinations,» said Anko van der Werff, president and CEO of SAS.
The company’s last operation at John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) was in 1989, since when SAS consolidated its operations at Newark (EWR). After 34 years, the company is returning to JFK and will be operating out of both major New York airports.
For the summer season, SAS will be providing 17,256 seats per week and operating more than 30 flights per week between Scandinavia and the New York metropolitan area, connecting the Big Apple with Copenhagen (CPH), Stockholm – Arlanda (ARN), Oslo (OSL) and new seasonal services to Aalborg (AAL) and Gothenburg (GOT).
