Lufthansa Technik to provide monitoring services for Avianca’s Airbus fleet

-

Lufthansa Technik and Avianca today confirmed the signing of a new contract for the provision of condition monitoring services for the Colombian carrier’s Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft.

As a result of the agreement, Avianca will be able to receive consolidated real-time information on the condition of the aircraft and all its components, both in flight and on the ground, through the AVIATAR platform developed by Lufthansa Technik.

According to a press release from the German carrier’s maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) division, the contract will run for five years.

«The agreement we have signed with Lufthansa Technik shows our commitment to the digitalization of our airline and aircraft maintenance», said Álan Oliver, Avianca’s Maintenance Control Center Director. «Through the AVIATAR platform, we will be able to receive in-depth data access to each one of our Airbus aircraft and its maintenance messages, which enables our work order tracking and scheduling to be much more seamless and integrated in the future», he added.

«Avianca has been a partner of Lufthansa Technik for more than sixteen years and this agreement further solidifies the trust we have in each other as we continue to move together towards the digital age of condition monitoring», said Georgios Ouzounidis, Vice President Corporate Sales for The Americas at Lufthansa Technik. «Avianca will be able to proactively manage its fleet’s condition by coordinating and preparing maintenance activities in a more efficient and effective manner», he assured.

Monitoring and the AVIATAR platform

The digital services platform provides instant, high-capacity data from associated sensors that monitor, record and report on the configuration and status of aircraft systems and components. This overview is a critical component of predictive maintenance.

The information is combined with work orders and position data. In this way, the monitoring service provides customisable alerts and notifications for a specific airplane or an entire fleet. As a result, operators can get a comprehensive overview of possible preventive maintenance tasks.

Early detection of failures increases troubleshooting efficiency and leads to proactive corrective actions that reduce the likelihood of removing an aircraft from service and lead to higher availability of the fleet.
