Iberia Regional pilots announce an indefinite strike

Iberia Regional pilots decided with 92.37% of votes to adopt an indefinite strike as a measure to counteract the continuous blockade that the technical crew members have been suffering from the company.

Grouped under the Spanish Airline Pilots Union (Sepla), an independent institution that represents almost 7,000 pilots from all airlines based in Spain, in addition to helicopter pilots, aerial work, and RPAS, the crews decided to carry out the measure of force because “Iberia Regional Air Nostrum has decided to ignore any understanding and systematically reject the proposals that, for more than seven months, Sepla has presented”. According to the union, the pilots are demanding their working conditions.

The union also demands that the company “cease harassment and denial of pilots’ basic rights, such as changes in scheduling and days off.” According to the entity, these actions were allowed before last December’s strike but, they add, since this measure was implemented, they began to be denied. In addition, the Iberia franchise is “retaliating” against the pilots, sending emails that “exceed legality”.

Sepla added that it regrets that Iberia Regional Air Nostrum’s only response to the workers’ proposals to establish working conditions minimally in line with the sector is blocking, threatening, and attempting to intimidate. “It is time for the company to cease these practices and the immobile position it has adopted since the beginning of last year, listen to the pilots, and sit down to negotiate to find a solution,” the union said in a statement.
