Aeromexico received authorization from the Mexican and U.S. authorities to begin nonstop flights between Felipe Angeles International Airport (NLU) and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The company consolidates its operations between Houston (IAH) and the Mexico City metropolitan area.
This new service will begin on May 1, 2023, with a flight operated by Aeromexico Connect in an Embraer 190 with a capacity of ninety-nine seats in two classes. This service will complement the operations offered by the company between Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX) and Houston (IAH). Tickets will soon be available for sale through the airline’s regular channels.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), 879,133 passengers and 389.6 tons of cargo were mobilized in 2022 between Mexico City and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in 7,897 operations. This segment was the fifth most important route between the United States and Mexico, where Aeromexico has a 25% share of seat capacity in the market.
Houston (IAH) will be the company’s ninth destination and the first international destination at Felipe Angeles International Airport (NLU), in addition to offering the first nonstop connection to the United States at that airport. This new route will allow travelers from Mexico City and domestic destinations offered by Aeromexico at AIFA (Acapulco, Cancun, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Merida, Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta and Veracruz) to the United States, reinforcing connectivity between both nations.
After an evaluation and current conditions, U.S. and Mexican authorities approved this route considering AIFA as part of the Mexico City metropolitan area.
Aeromexico stated that it «continues to work closely with the Mexican aviation authority to regain Category 1 aviation status under the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program, in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards».
